Taufiq Nawaz, husband of former minister Dipu Moni, dies at 76

Taufiq Nawaz, a Supreme Court lawyer and husband of former minister and Awami League leader Dipu Moni, has died at the age of 76. He passed away at 10:27 p.m. on Tuesday at Continental Hospital in Dhaka’s Gulshan area.
The death was confirmed by Gazi Faisal Islam, a lawyer representing Dipu Moni. According to legal counsel, Nawaz had been suffering from prolonged health complications, specifically issues related to his liver and kidneys. His condition deteriorated several days ago, leading to his hospitalization.
Funeral arrangements, including the timing and location of the burial, have not yet been finalized. Family members are expected to meet to determine the details in the coming hours, according to Gazi Faisal Islam.
Dipu Moni is currently held in Munshiganj District Jail, facing multiple criminal charges filed in connection with the killings during the July uprising. Legal representatives indicated that they intend to file an application for her parole on Wednesday morning to allow her to attend her husband’s funeral rites. The formal request will be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Munshiganj.
