Woman gives birth to quadruplets at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital

A woman gave birth to quadruplets at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital early Tuesday, with medical staff placing the newborns under close observation due to their low birth weight and premature arrival.
The mother, Tisha Khatun, a resident of the Sipai Para area in Rajshahi, delivered two boys and two girls via cesarean section. Her husband, Nayan Islam, expressed gratitude for the birth of his children and voiced hopes for their recovery and future well-being.
Tisha was admitted to the hospital on Monday afternoon after experiencing labor pain, with the delivery occurring around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday. Following the birth, the infants were initially placed in ward 26 before being transferred to the Special Care Newborn Unit (SCANU) for specialized treatment.
Hospital spokesperson Sheikh Shamim Ahmed stated that the infants were born at 34 weeks of gestation. Their weights range from one kilogram to 1.3 kilograms, which is significantly below the typical healthy birth weight range of 1.5 to two kilograms.
According to medical officials, the primary concern remains the premature development of the infants’ lungs, a common complication in multiple-birth and preterm cases. While the newborns are currently stable, they are not yet able to ingest food orally and are being sustained through intravenous nutrition and syrup under constant medical supervision.
