Dhaka University Chhatra Dal Marks Khaleda Zia Birthday with Special Prayers

The Dhaka University unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) held a special prayer session at the university’s central mosque on Saturday to mark the 82nd birthday of former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia. The event, held following the Zuhr prayers, focused on her political contributions and her long-standing commitment to democracy.
Prayers were offered for the well-being and longevity of Khaleda Zia, as well as for the salvation of the souls of the late President and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman. Special supplications were also made for the health and safety of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his family members.
The event was attended by prominent university officials, including Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor A B M Obayedul Islam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Mohammad Al-Mojaddedi Alfesani, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Abdus Salam. Representatives from the student wing, including JCD Central General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, Dhaka University unit President Ganesh Chandra Roy, and General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon, were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Nasir Uddin Nasir praised Khaleda Zia’s dedication to the nation, describing her as a leader who treated student activists with maternal affection. He emphasized that Khaleda Zia remained steadfast in her commitment to Bangladeshi nationalism and democratic principles, urging party workers to remain vigilant in protecting the country’s democratic future.
Nahiduzzaman Shipon characterized Khaleda Zia as an “uncompromising leader,” noting that she refused to leave the country despite the political challenges and pressures faced during the previous Awami League administration.
According to JCD leadership, similar commemorative programs are being held by the organization across various universities, colleges, districts, and metropolitan areas nationwide to mark the occasion.
