One dead after mob lynches three suspected robbers in Jamalpur

A 50-year-old man was killed and two others were injured in Islampur Upazila of Jamalpur on Saturday after local residents cornered and beat the trio, accusing them of attempted robbery.
The deceased has been identified as Nur Mohammad, a resident of Kundeerpara village in the Kamarjani Union of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila. The two injured individuals, Jahangir, 40, from Batikamari in Gaibandha, and Rafiqul, 35, from Borkhal village in Dewanganj Upazila, are currently receiving treatment at the Islampur Upazila Health Complex.
According to police and local accounts, the incident began when the three men traveled by a small boat to the Borul area of Belgacha Union along the Jamuna River. Local fishermen, suspecting the group of criminal intent, pursued them. The chase continued as residents from the Guthail area joined the pursuit. The group was eventually intercepted in the Uliya area of Chinaduli Union, where they were subjected to a violent mob beating. Nur Mohammad succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Police recovered the body on Saturday afternoon and transported it to the Jamalpur General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Islampur Police Station, stated that no formal complaints had been filed as of Saturday evening. He confirmed that an investigation is underway and that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
