BNP Lawmaker Ainul Haque Car Attacked in Sirajganj Amid Local Protests

RAIGANJ, Sirajganj — A vehicle carrying Member of Parliament Md. Ainul Haque was attacked on Saturday evening following a public meeting in the Dhangara Bazaar area of Raiganj Upazila. The incident, which resulted in the shattering of the vehicle’s rear windshield, has sparked political tension in the region.
Haque, who represents the Sirajganj-3 constituency covering Raiganj and Tarash, was departing the area at approximately 6:00 p.m. after attending a meeting regarding the site selection for a new Technical Training Center (TTC). According to sources familiar with the matter, the lawmaker’s car was obstructed by local residents as he attempted to leave. Amid the confusion, unidentified individuals threw objects at the vehicle, causing the damage. The lawmaker was later escorted toward Chandaikona by police and his political aides.
In the aftermath of the incident, Faisal Ahmed, a companion of the MP, publicly accused members of Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Congress Party (NCP) of orchestrating the attack. This allegation was echoed by the Sirajganj district unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which issued a formal statement condemning the attack and organized protest marches demanding swift legal action against the perpetrators.
Ali Mortuza, the local Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, rejected the accusations, dismissing them as a habitual tactic by the BNP to blame his organization for local unrest. He stated that the party would issue an official response regarding the incident in due course.
Simultaneous to the protests by BNP activists, local residents also gathered at the Dhangara bus stand to demonstrate in favor of the proposed TTC construction in their area.
Additional Superintendent of Police for the Raiganj Circle, Saiful Islam Khan, confirmed that authorities are investigating the incident. While he declined to name specific suspects, he assured that law enforcement is working to identify those responsible for the attack. Khan noted that the situation in the area remains under control.
MP Ainul Haque has officially called upon law enforcement agencies to take immediate action against those responsible for the assault.
