Love from acquaintance on Facebook, husband and wife plan to kill lover later. A police investigation revealed a brutal description of the murder.

From introduction to love on Facebook. Personal photos are exchanged. At one point, the husband came to know about this relationship. The situation becomes complicated with this. In the end, the husband and wife plan to kill the lover together. According to the plan, he was called to an empty mess house in Bachila of the capital and killed. The body was cut into 9 pieces and packed in cartons in two districts. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) reported this information after investigating the case of killing a young man in Dhaka.
The name of this young man who was brutally murdered on April 3 last year is Sajjad Hossain (24). Sajjad was the only child of his parents. He lived with his parents in Savar’s Hemayetpur house. Graduated (Honours) from a local college. About a year before the murder, he took a job in a private company in Banani of the capital. He used to work by coming and going from home. In the meantime, he was involved in a love relationship with that young woman named Sumaiya Trishna (26) from his acquaintance on Facebook. Sumaiya’s house is in Mohammadpur area of Dhaka. He is a third year graduate student of a private university in Dhaka. Her husband Roknuzzaman Palash (26) is also a student of the same year of the same university. Sajjad was killed after being summoned to his mess in Bachila area. Both are currently in jail. They are on trial in the case of killing Sajjad.
The details of Sajjad’s love affair with Sumaiya and the subsequent murder of Sajjad in the conspiracy of Sumaiya and her husband have emerged in the PBI’s chargesheet submitted to the court. After investigating the case, PBI’s Dhaka District Police Inspector Jamal Uddin submitted the charge sheet against Roknuzzaman and Sumaiya in the Dhaka court on September 30 last year. Currently, the case is in the stage of taking evidence. 40 people have been named as witnesses in the charge sheet. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for August 31.
PBI’s investigation revealed that Sumaiya met the murder victim Sajjad through a fake Facebook account. They had been in contact and love relationship since about two months before the murder. Their relationship also builds physical intimacy.
Investigating officer Jamal Uddin said that about a month and a half before the murder, nude pictures were exchanged between them. According to Sumaiya’s statement, on March 1, 2025, her husband Roknuzzaman asked her for personal photos on Messenger. While giving the photo, he gave it to an ID named ‘Supta’. Sajjad used that ID. Sumaiya claimed that the conversation between Sumaiya and Sajjad started from there. Sajjad blackmailed Sumaiya.
However, the investigation officer said that there was a two-month love relationship between Sumaiya and Sajjad. He said that during this time, the two had intimate relationships several times. As Roknuzzaman came to know about the matter, tension was created between them. Sumaiya lies to hide the real information from her husband. In order to prove herself innocent, she agreed to her husband’s plan to kill.
According to the PBI chargesheet, Roknuzzaman and Sumaiya knew each other since their high school studies. They said they got married in 2023. However, no one in their family knew about their marriage. The two lived separately. Sumaiya lived with her family in Mohammadpur and Roknuzzaman lived in Bachilhar Mess.
Investigating officer Jamal Uddin said, Roknuzzaman used to force Sumaiya to make nude pictures and videos with her face covered. There was tension in their relationship with this. On the other hand, the situation becomes more complicated after learning about Sumaiya’s relationship with Sajjad and the exchange of personal photos between them.
On the night of April 2, 2025, Roknuzzaman collected a mobile SIM by paying 500 taka to a rickshaw driver. The SIM was registered in the name of the rickshaw puller. Under the direction of Roknuzzaman, Sumaiya called Sajjad from that number and asked him to come to the empty mess of Bachilha the next morning. Roknuzzaman lived in that mess. The next morning, Sajjad went to the mess on the seventh floor of a 10-storey building in Bachilha.
The investigation revealed that Sumaiya called Sajjad saying that there is no one to meet during the Eid holidays. And according to the plan, Roknuzzaman was hiding in the bathroom of that mess. When Sajjad entered the room and hugged Sumaiya, Roknuzzaman came from behind and hit him on the face and back with a knife. Sajjad fainted at one stage of the fight.
Roknuzzaman said in the statement given to the court that after the death of Sajjad, the floor of the room was covered with blood. They first tried to move the body. But as that was not possible, he decided to dismember the body.
Investigation revealed that rice sacks, chaat bags, large cartons and scotch tape were purchased to remove the body parts. Later the dismembered bodies were packed into three cartons. The cartons are well wrapped with scotch tape. According to the investigation officer, the whole process was done in such a way that there is no evidence of their direct involvement in the murder.
It is said in the charge sheet that after the murder, Roknuzzaman and Sumaiya hired a private car for Tk 4,500 to hide the body. They left Bichla towards Mawa in Munshiganj at night with the dismembered parts of the body in three cartons. After dinner there, on the way back, he dropped the cartons in a secluded place.
According to the complaint, a carton was taken to Padma Setu (North) police station’s Medinimandal area in Munshiganj. There it was thrown into a sewer. The other two cartons were taken to Keraniganj. They left the two cartons in a deserted low-lying land near the Malanch Hospital road from Shubhadhya Union Power House.
The next day on April 4, 2025, a dog pulled out a pot from a carton left in Keraniganj and tore it. That’s when the body parts of Sajjad came out. On receiving the information, the police went to the spot and recovered them. Around the same time, another carton was also recovered from the area under Padma Setu (North) police station in Munshiganj.
The dismembered parts of the body were sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital. PBI collects fingerprints as well as bone, tooth and nail samples. DNA tests later confirmed that the recovered fragments belonged to Sajja.
Meanwhile, not finding Sajjad, his father Mohammad Yusuf Ali made a GD at Savar Model Police Station on the night of April 3, 2025. After the body was recovered, it was converted into a murder case.
After the recovery of Sajjad’s dismembered body, the PBI started analyzing the technical data on its own initiative. Attempts are made to identify those involved in the murder by analyzing mobile phone call data, locations and other clues.
Investigating officer Jamal Uddin told Prothom Alo that the incident of this murder was completely ‘clueless’. In the beginning the numbers spoken on the mobile phone are verified through technology. Based on this, the rickshaw driver was arrested. During interrogation, he said that another person bought the SIM from him for 500 taka. Roknuzzaman got the information after various processes. Accused Sumaiya was also identified based on that source.
After the murder, Roknuzzaman and Sumaiya planned to flee to India. Roknuzzaman’s house in Jeevannagar, Chuadanga. The two tried to escape to India through the Jeevannagar border.
To keep their location secret, Sumaiya left the SIM he used in the village house in Feni. Then he left for Jibannagar via Gabtali. Police identified his location with the help of information technology. Even in the bus in which Sumaiya was going, a policeman also boarded as a passenger. Sumaiya was arrested by the police around 1.30 am on April 8 after getting off the bus in Jeevannagar. Later Roknuzzaman was arrested.
Sumaiya’s lawyer Mozzammel Hossain told Prothom Alo that there is nothing special to say at the moment. It will be understood when the full judicial proceedings of the case begin. He claimed that there is a discrepancy between the charge sheet and the accused’s statement under section 164.
Yusuf Ali became emotional while talking about his son. He told Prothom Alo that Sajjad was his only son. On the day of the incident, he woke up around eight in the morning and saw that his son was not at home. Tried to contact on mobile phone and got it turned off. Later, after seeing the footage of the closed circuit (CC) camera of the house, he found out that Sajjad had left the house around 6:30 in the morning.
Yusuf Ali reported to the police station around seven in the evening without finding any trace of his son. He said, ‘My son was very good. The boy had no enemies. I want justice for the murder of my son.
