Court Denies Bail to Actor Don in Salman Shah Murder Case

A Dhaka court denied a bail plea on Wednesday for actor Ashraful Haque, commonly known as Don, in connection with the murder case of popular film star Salman Shah.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam issued the order following a hearing. State prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqui confirmed the development. During the proceedings, defense lawyers moved for bail, but the prosecution opposed the application, leading the court to reject the request.

Don was arrested on August 9 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Following his arrest, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police, which is handling the investigation, produced him in court and requested that he be remanded in custody. The court subsequently ordered him to be sent to jail.

Salman Shah passed away on September 6, 1996, a death that has remained a subject of public speculation and debate for nearly three decades. Last year, following a court directive, the actor’s uncle, Alamgir Kumkum, filed a murder case at Ramna Police Station on behalf of Salman Shah’s mother, Neela Chowdhury.

The case names 11 individuals as suspects, including Salman Shah’s former wife, Samira Haque, and actor Don. Other accused parties include Samira’s mother, Latifa Haque Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, as well as David, Javed, Faruq, Ruby, Abdul Sattar, Saju, and Rezvi Ahmed, alias Farhad.

The CID is currently conducting an investigation into the matter. The court has scheduled August 30 for the submission of the investigative report.
