Protestors block Jamuna Express in Mymensingh demanding permanent stop at Mashakhali Station

Local residents have blocked the Jamuna Express intercity train at Mashakhali railway station in the Gafargaon Upazila of Mymensingh, demanding a permanent stop for the service at the station. The blockade, which began at 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday, has suspended rail operations on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route.
The Jamuna Express, traveling from Jamalpur to Dhaka, was intercepted by protesters who hung red cloths across the tracks to force the train to a halt. As of 8:30 a.m., the train remained stranded at the station, located approximately five kilometers from the Gafargaon railway station.
Demonstrators stated that they have been protesting for 10 to 12 days to secure a permanent stoppage for the intercity train at Mashakhali. They argue that the station is vital for the newly formed South Gafargaon Upazila and have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met by railway authorities.
Akhtar Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Mymensingh Railway Police Station, confirmed that police units have been dispatched to the scene. Authorities are currently working to disperse the crowd and restore normal train services on the route.
