Armed assailants rob DL Petrol Pump staff of 12.1 million taka in Dhaka airport area robbery

Gunmen intercepted a vehicle and stole 12.125 million taka in cash from an employee of DL Petrol Pump in the capital’s Uttara area on Sunday morning. The robbery occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. in front of the Crown Plaza hotel on Airport Road.
Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Hasan Talukdar confirmed that the petrol pump’s manager, Abdul Karim, has filed a case against six to seven unidentified individuals. According to the police report, the stolen funds belonged to the DL Petrol Pump, which is owned by Taseen Akter Haque, a cousin of former Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The incident unfolded as assistant manager Mohammad Al Amin, CNG operator Selimuzzaman, and driver Khorshed were traveling to a Pubali Bank branch in Uttara Sector 1 to deposit the revenue. Three motorcycles carrying the suspects blocked the path of their covered van. The attackers brandished firearms and struck Al Amin with a sharp weapon before seizing the bag containing the cash and fleeing toward Abdullahpur.
Following the assault, the victim was transported to the Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hospital with the assistance of his colleagues and bystanders.
Investigators are currently examining the possibility that the perpetrators had prior knowledge of the petrol pump’s banking routine, as the employees were following a standard daily schedule.
Tarek Ahmed Beg, Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Uttara Division, stated that authorities have identified several suspects involved in the heist. Police operations to apprehend the individuals are currently underway.
