Sawmill Worker Critically Injured in Attempted Murder in Noakhali

Unknown assailants attempted to murder a 50-year-old sawmill worker in his sleep at his home in Sonaimuri, Noakhali, late Sunday night. The victim, Saleh Ahmed, sustained severe neck injuries during the attack and has been transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. at the victim’s residence in the Bhuiyan Bari area of Borla Uttarpara, located in Ward 7 of the Sonaimuri Municipality. According to police reports, Ahmed’s wife was awakened by the commotion and witnessed an unidentified individual fleeing the house. Upon discovering her husband’s injuries, she raised an alarm, prompting the attacker to escape.
Family members reported that despite the violent nature of the attack, no valuables were stolen from the residence. They were unable to identify the assailant or provide a motive for the attempted homicide. Initial medical aid was provided at the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital, but doctors later ordered his transfer to Dhaka due to the critical nature of his wounds.
Noakhali District Superintendent of Police NM Nasir Uddin visited the scene on Monday afternoon. Following interviews with the victim’s wife and brother, the Superintendent characterized the incident as mysterious and confirmed that he has ordered a priority investigation into the matter.
Ariful Karim, Inspector (Investigation) of Sonaimuri Police Station, stated that local authorities were not alerted to the crime until Monday morning. As of now, the victim’s family has not filed a formal written complaint with the police. Inspector Karim confirmed that law enforcement remains prepared to initiate a full investigation once an official report is received.
