Bollywood actress Mrunal Thakur has issued a stern warning against the misuse of artificial intelligence to generate deepfake content, labeling such actions a serious legal violation. In a formal statement posted to her Instagram account on Tuesday, the actress declared that the unauthorized use of her likeness or identity to create deceptive material is entirely unacceptable and will no longer be tolerated. She categorized her public message as a final ultimatum, emphasizing that any further instances of such digital impersonation will be met with immediate legal action.
Thakur’s stance aligns with a growing movement within the Indian film industry as high-profile figures increasingly take a stand to protect their personality rights. A roster of prominent actors, including Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta, Kartik Aaryan, and Suniel Shetty, have similarly sought legal recourse to combat the exploitation of their identities in the digital space.
The proliferation of deepfake technology has sparked widespread concern among celebrities, who argue that the tools are being weaponized to compromise individual integrity.
