Clash over Chittagong fish farm leaves one dead and twenty injured

A violent clash between two rival factions over the control of a commercial fish enclosure in Banshkhali, Chittagong, left one man dead and at least 20 others injured early Saturday morning.
The victim, identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Zillur Rahman, was a resident of the West Saral area in the union’s Ward 1. According to local officials, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. Friday, erupting from a long-standing territorial dispute between local groups led by individuals identified as Mansur and Kabir. Both factions reportedly laid claim to local salt fields and fish enclosures.
As reported by *Prothom Alo*, the confrontation escalated rapidly as participants armed themselves with firearms, sharp weapons, and clubs. During the ensuing violence, Rahman sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Roksana Akhter, panel chair of the Saral Union Parishad, confirmed the fatalities and noted that the casualty count reached approximately 20 injured as the groups clashed.
Assistant Superintendent of Police for the Anwara Circle, Mahmudul Hasan, stated that local authorities have launched an investigation into the shooting. Police personnel were dispatched to the scene to restore order and identify those responsible for the violence. The victim’s body remains at the hospital as investigations continue.
