Suspected gang member shot and hacked to death in Khulna city

A 36-year-old man was killed late Thursday in an attack by unidentified assailants in the Dakshin Tutpara Boro Khalpar area of Khulna city. The victim, identified as Md. Ismail, was targeted around 12:15 a.m. while in his neighborhood.
According to police and local accounts, the attackers shot Ismail in the head before repeatedly hacking him with sharp weapons to ensure his death. Although local residents rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital immediately following the assault, he was pronounced dead upon arrival by attending physicians.
Khulna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam noted that the brutality of the attack suggests a high degree of animosity from the perpetrators. Police records confirm that he was facing three pending cases at the local station involving assault and explosives charges. Reports from the community also identified him as a worker for the Jubo League.
Authorities have processed the crime scene for forensic evidence and transferred the body to the Khulna Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
