Pabna schoolteacher found dead in septic tank following suspected burglary

Police in Pabna’s Atghoria upazila recovered the body of a 45-year-old schoolteacher from a septic tank at her home in Baraipara village on Thursday morning. The victim, identified as Gita Rani, was an instructor at a local BRAC school in the Ekdanta union.
Neighbors discovered the body around 11 a.m. after noticing signs of a forced entry into her home. Witnesses reported seeing a hole dug through the wall of her residence, suggesting an intruder had gained access during the night. The victim, whose husband lives in Dhaka, had been living alone at the property.
According to local residents, Gita Rani had retired for the evening on Wednesday after dinner, but she could not be found the following morning. After a search of the premises, neighbors located her body inside a disused septic tank and alerted law enforcement.
Atghoria Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Huda confirmed the discovery, stating that investigators suspect a robbery attempt turned fatal. Preliminary findings suggest that the teacher likely confronted an intruder, leading the assailant to strangle her and conceal the body in the tank.
The victim’s body has been sent to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the murder, as officials work to identify the suspects behind the breach.
