Bangladesh Tribunal Receives Complaint Against 28 Prominent Cultural Figures and Journalists Over Alleged Role in July Uprising Crimes

A formal complaint has been filed with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against 28 individuals, including two journalists and 24 prominent actors and cultural figures, accusing them of inciting crimes against humanity. The complaint was submitted on Sunday by an organization known as Rashtrasanglap Forum.

The journalists named in the petition are Anis Alamgir and Soma Islam. The list of cultural figures includes former Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, who is currently in custody, and former member of parliament Ferdous Ahmed. Other notable personalities cited in the complaint include actresses Meher Afroz Shaon, Shomi Kaiser, Aruna Biswas, Rokeya Prachy, Mahia Mahi, Nipun Akter, Tanvin Sweety, Jyotika Jyoti, Sohana Saba, Shamima Tusti, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Sujata Azim, and model Maria Kispotta.

The list further encompasses actors Riaz Ahmed, Saju Khadem, Hridi Huq, Saymon Sadik, Zayed Khan, Azizul Hakim, Chandan Reza, Ashraful Alom (widely known as Hero Alom), model and lawyer Pia Jannatul, as well as Momin Mehedi and Shanta Farzana.

Al Noor Mohammad Ayas, member secretary of the Rashtrasanglap Forum, alleged after filing the complaint that the individuals named were involved in abetting, supporting, and inciting crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising. The organization has formally requested a transparent, impartial, and lawful investigation into the matter.

Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam confirmed receipt of the written complaint. He stated that while he has not yet reviewed the specific allegations contained in the document, the office will forward the filing to the investigative agency for a formal inquiry.
