Passenger dies after falling from train in Netrokona

A 22-year-old garment worker died early Friday after falling from a moving train in the Rajurbazar area of Netrokona. The victim, identified as Muhid Khan, was traveling home from Dhaka when the fatal accident occurred on the Mymensingh-Mohanganj rail line.

Muhid, a resident of Boropaikura village in Mohanganj upazila, had boarded the intercity Haor Express from Dhaka’s Kamalapur station on Thursday night. According to his cousin, Dewan Riad, the young man had been unable to secure a ticket and was standing near the train’s door for the duration of the journey.

Witness accounts indicate that the tragedy unfolded around 4:00 a.m. as the train neared Netrokona. While standing at the open door, the exhausted commuter reportedly dozed off and lost his grip, falling from the train onto the tracks below. The impact resulted in the traumatic amputation of one of his legs, and his remains were later discovered in a nearby ditch.

Local residents alerted the railway police to the scene following the incident. Officers from the Mohanganj railway police outpost subsequently recovered the body and initiated legal proceedings.

Sub-Inspector Md. Akmal of the Netrokona Model Police Station confirmed that the body was initially secured at the site before being transferred to the railway police. Mobarak Hossain, in-charge of the Mohanganj railway police outpost, stated that the victim’s family has formally requested to claim the body without a post-mortem examination. Authorities are currently coordinating with senior officials to finalize the release of the remains.
