Toddler killed after being struck by battery-powered rickshaw in Dhaka

A two-and-a-half-year-old child died in the capital’s Tejgaon industrial area on Tuesday after being struck by a battery-operated rickshaw. The incident occurred on the Begunbari Dhal road during the afternoon, claiming the life of Nawrin, the daughter of a local van driver, Nazim Mia.
The victim’s family, originally from Madarer Char village in Jamalpur’s Dewanganj upazila, currently resides in a rented home in the Begunbari area. According to Nazim Mia, the family had stepped out together in the afternoon when Nawrin accidentally slipped away from her father’s grasp and moved into the path of traffic. The speeding battery-operated rickshaw struck the toddler, causing her to fall and sustain severe head injuries.

Family members transported the child to a local hospital for emergency treatment, but her condition deteriorated rapidly. She was subsequently transferred to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at approximately 6:30 p.m., where attending physicians pronounced her dead.
Inspector Md. Faruk of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost confirmed the arrival of the child and the medical assessment. The body has been moved to the hospital morgue for further procedures.
