Jatiya Party Chief GM Quader Accuses BNP and Jamaat of Political Collusion Amid Ongoing Civil Unrest

Jatiya Party Chairman G.M. Quader has accused the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and their political allies of maintaining a clandestine understanding to share power, despite public displays of political friction. Speaking at a memorial meeting for the party’s founder and former president, Hussain Muhammad Ershad, on the seventh anniversary of his death in Rangpur, Quader asserted that these groups continue to operate in alignment behind the scenes. He dismissed the facade of their rivalry, claiming the parties remain fundamentally linked.

Addressing the integrity of recent national elections, Quader described the 2024 process as deeply compromised, alleging that widespread electoral engineering occurred well beyond the official voting hours. He claimed that Jatiya Party has gathered substantial evidence and documentation suggesting that the interim government and key political factions conspired to manipulate results. According to Quader, these actions rendered the electoral process invalid, falling short of the standards required for free and fair democratic representation.

The Jatiya Party leader also expressed grave concern over the current state of law and order, describing a climate of lawlessness where individuals are being targeted, assaulted, and dispossessed of their property and businesses. He argued that while the previous administration’s abuses were largely institutional, the current volatility involves broad social retribution that extends to the systemic destruction of livelihoods.

Quader characterized the July mass uprising as an unfinished revolution, noting that the public’s aspiration for a discriminatory-free, accountable, and rule-based society remains unfulfilled. He warned that the prevailing lack of security for life, property, and individual dignity is unsustainable and will inevitably trigger a new wave of public unrest.

The memorial event, held at Ershad’s residence, Palli Nibash, was also addressed by Jatiya Party Secretary General Shamim Haider Patwary and Co-Chairman Mostafizur Rahman, who joined Quader in reflecting on the political legacy of the late president.
