Woman Dies After Snakebite in Noakhali Kitchen

A 25-year-old mother of two died Sunday after being bitten by a venomous snake while cooking in her home in the Mirwarishpur village of Noakhali’s Begumganj upazila. The victim, Shahanaz Aktar, was fatally struck at approximately 12:30 p.m. while reaching for onions stored on a rack inside her kitchen.
According to Giyas Uddin, a neighbor familiar with the family’s account, Shahanaz was preparing a meal when the attack occurred. Following the bite, relatives initially attempted to provide localized treatment before transporting her to the Noakhali General Hospital around 2:30 p.m.
Despite medical intervention, Shahanaz succumbed to the venom at the hospital by 4:30 p.m. Dr. Rajib Ahmed Chowdhury, the facility’s resident medical officer, confirmed that the patient passed away while undergoing treatment.
Local authorities, including Begumganj Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Shamsuzzaman, acknowledged reports of the incident. However, officials noted that the family has not formally notified the police regarding the circumstances of the fatality.
