Bangladesh Government Mandates Court Police Custody for Case Dockets

The Bangladeshi government has mandated that Case Dockets (CD) for all active matters in courts and tribunals must remain under the exclusive custody of designated court police officials.
The directive, issued Sunday by the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, amends a previous circular dating back to October 2009. Under the revised protocols, the responsibility for maintaining custody of these critical case files rests with police officials across all judicial tiers, including Metropolitan Magistrate courts, Judicial Magistrate courts, and District and Sessions Judge courts.
To streamline the legal process, the ministry has established specific procedures for the handling of these documents during court proceedings. Prior to scheduled hearings or testimony sessions, court police are required to coordinate the transfer of the dockets to the relevant Public Prosecutors, Additional Public Prosecutors, or Assistant Public Prosecutors. Upon the conclusion of the proceedings, the dockets must be returned to the police officer’s custody.
The ministry has emphasized the necessity of strict coordination between legal counsel and law enforcement to ensure the integrity of the records. All Public Prosecutors and Metropolitan Public Prosecutors have been instructed to enforce these measures immediately to ensure that documentation is preserved and tracked throughout the litigation process.
