BGB apprehends and returns two men following illegal border crossing in Sherpur

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel apprehended two men Monday morning as they attempted to re-enter the country illegally through the Rangajan border area in Sherpur’s Jhenaigati upazila. The individuals were subsequently pushed back across the border following a brief detention.
The two men were identified as 33-year-old Ibrahim, son of Mostafa Ali, and 18-year-old Sharif, son of Mozammel Haque. Both are residents of Godagari upazila in Rajshahi. According to the BGB’s Mymensingh-39 Battalion, local residents alerted authorities after spotting the pair wandering approximately 300 yards inside Bangladeshi territory near main border pillar 1097.

A patrol team from the Tawakucha Border Outpost (BOP) responded to the scene and took the men into custody when they failed to produce valid travel documents or legal authorization for their movement. During preliminary questioning, the men admitted to crossing into India illegally on June 26 with the assistance of a human trafficking syndicate. They reported returning to Bangladesh early Monday morning at approximately 4:00 a.m. via the same network.
Following the apprehension, BGB officials processed the individuals and initiated a pushback operation at 10:30 a.m. near main pillar 1096-2S.

Havildar Mustafizur Rahman, commander of the Tawakucha BGB camp, emphasized that the force maintains a heightened state of vigilance to curb illegal infiltration and human trafficking along the frontier. He confirmed that regular patrols and surveillance operations remain in effect to secure the border region.
