Bangladesh reshuffles senior police ranks with 21 officers reassigned

The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced a significant administrative reshuffle within the Bangladesh Police, reassigning 21 senior officers ranging from Additional Inspector General to Superintendent of Police. The sweeping changes, confirmed in an official notification on Sunday, involve four Additional Inspectors General, five Deputy Inspectors General, seven Additional Deputy Inspectors General, and five Superintendents of Police.

Among the most notable appointments, Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, recently promoted to Additional Inspector General, has been named the new chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Hossain previously served as a director at the National Security Intelligence (NSI). Faruk Ahmed, also elevated to the rank of Additional Inspector General, has transitioned from his role as the Additional Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion to head the Highway Police.

Further leadership adjustments at the Additional Inspector General level include the appointment of Md. Mushfekur Rahman to the Police Headquarters, while former Chittagong Range DIG Md. Moniruzzaman has been assigned as the Additional Inspector General of the Police Telecom Department.

The reshuffle also impacted the Deputy Inspector General rank, with Pralay Chisim reassigned to the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Noakhali. Other leadership changes in this category see Mia Masud Karim moving to the FDMN office of the Armed Police Battalion, Mohammad Osman Gani to PTC Rangpur, and A.F.M. Mosharraf Hossain Miazi to PTC Khulna.

At the Additional Deputy Inspector General level, Moha. Asaduzzaman has been transferred to the Rapid Action Battalion, while A.K.M. Aktaruzzaman and Md. Kutub Uddin have been moved to Police Headquarters. Other reassignments include Md. Al Mamun to the 2nd Armed Police Battalion, Sarkar Mohammad Kaysar to PSTS Betbunia, and Mohammad Mohibul Islam Khan to the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah. Additionally, Md. Abdul Warish has been posted to PTC Rangpur, and Mohammad Rashidal Islam Khan has been attached to the office of the Barisal Range DIG.

Rounding out the transfers, five Superintendents of Police—Kazi Ehsanul Kabir, Md. Jahidur Rahman, Salma Syed Poly, Md. Shahidul Islam, and Md. Kamruzzaman—have been assigned to new roles across Police Headquarters, the Sardah Academy, and the Rangpur and Barisal Range offices.
