Residents Detain Two Armed Men During Failed Fish Farm Raid in Coxs Bazar

Residents in the isolated island community of Koriardia, located in Cox’s Bazar’s Pekua upazila, apprehended two armed men Friday morning during an alleged attempt to forcibly seize a local fish enclosure. The suspects were subsequently handed over to police, who recovered multiple firearms and ammunition from the scene.
The detainees have been identified as 37-year-old Nezam Uddin, from Maheshkhali’s Kalarmarchhara union, and 35-year-old Shahidul Islam, from Badarkhali union. According to local witnesses, the pair were part of a group of 12 individuals who arrived at the Koriardia fish farm around 4:00 a.m. armed with weapons. The villagers confronted the group, eventually cornering two suspects and seizing their motorized boat.
Pekua Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mehedi Hassan confirmed that officers arrived at the site by 10:00 a.m. to take the men into custody. During the operation, police seized two locally made guns, two live rounds of ammunition, and 12 empty cartridges.
Authorities are currently processing a case against the suspects under the Arms Act. They are scheduled to be presented before the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Chakaria on Saturday morning.
