RAB arrests key suspect in murder of Jubo Dal leader in Raozan

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel have apprehended Mohammad Ayub, a primary suspect in the June murder of Jubo Dal leader Maksudul Haque Chowdhury Masud, following a targeted operation in the hilly terrain of Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila. The arrest took place Sunday morning in Dochhari village, located within Khedarmara union, where the suspect had been hiding in a remote house.

According to law enforcement authorities, Ayub is identified as a key conspirator in the killing and was reportedly present at the scene when the attack occurred. Following his detention, he was transferred to the custody of local police. Baghaichhari Police Station officer-in-charge Nasir Uddin Majumder confirmed the arrest, stating that investigators are currently interrogating the suspect to identify other accomplices involved in the plot.

The victim, Maksudul Haque Chowdhury Masud, who served as the senior joint convener of the Rangunia upazila Jubo Dal, was gunned down on June 13 at the Pahartali Choumuhani Bazar in Raozan. Witnesses reported that five to seven armed assailants arrived at the market in a CNG-run autorickshaw at approximately 1:30 p.m. while the victim was standing outside a pharmacy. The gunmen opened fire at close range, striking Masud in the head and torso before fleeing the area in the same vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A murder case was filed on June 15 by the victim’s brother, Pearul Haque Chowdhury, at the Raozan Police Station. The formal complaint names 11 individuals as suspects, including Mohammad Rayhan, Mohammad Ilyas, Mohammad Mobarak, Didarul Alam, and Mohammad Yusuf. An additional eight unidentified suspects are also listed in the ongoing police investigation.
