Natore Grocer Arrested Following Sexual Assault and Pregnancy of 12-Year-Old Student

Police in Natore have arrested a 56-year-old shopkeeper following allegations that he sexually assaulted a 12-year-old schoolgirl over the course of a year, leaving her eight months pregnant. The suspect, Osman Ali, was remanded into custody by a local court on Thursday, with authorities confirming plans to seek further interrogation through a police remand.
The investigation began after a teacher at the victim’s school noticed physical changes in the fifth-grade student and alerted her mother. Following a medical examination at a local maternal and child welfare center, doctors confirmed the girl was in her third trimester of pregnancy.
The victim subsequently disclosed that Ali, who operated a grocery store along her route to school, had lured her into the assaults by offering her sweets, biscuits, and chocolates. The girl’s father filed a formal complaint under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at the Natore Sadar Police Station on Tuesday afternoon. Police apprehended Ali later that night.
The revelation sparked outrage within the local community, with students and faculty staging a demonstration and human chain on the school grounds Wednesday to demand exemplary punishment for the accused. The victim’s father, a laborer, expressed his devastation over the incident, stating that his family had hoped education would offer his daughter a better future, but they are now struggling to process the trauma and ensure her survival.
Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mansur Rahman stated that officers took immediate action upon receiving the complaint. He assured the public that the department is committed to ensuring a thorough investigation and securing justice for the victim.
