Fire breaks out at Dhaka airport cargo village; no casualties reported

A fire broke out at the cargo village complex of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka late Friday night, prompting an emergency response from firefighting crews. While the incident caused alarm, authorities confirmed that there were no casualties reported.
According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the blaze was first detected near gate number nine of the cargo facility at 11:24 p.m. Four firefighting units were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they observed thick smoke emanating from a storage area. The crew managed to bring the fire under control by 11:38 p.m., preventing it from spreading to other parts of the complex.
Talha Bin Jasim, an official from the fire service’s media cell, stated that the origin of the fire and the extent of the damage remain under investigation.
The incident follows a significant fire at the same cargo complex on October 18 last year, which required a massive response from 37 firefighting units. That operation lasted for six and a half hours, during which all flight operations at the airport were suspended. That earlier blaze resulted in injuries to 35 people, including 25 members of the Ansar force.
