Religion and fine arts teacher is Bengal’s chief examiner with false information

Some of them teach religion, some art. Some are physical education teachers. However, his name came as the chief examiner for Bangla II Paper and Bangladesh and World Introduction for the assessment of SSC examination papers. The information of seven such teachers has been found in the list of chief examiners of SSC examination of Chittagong Education Board this year. Later the board removed their names from the list.
According to education board sources, usually around 310 examiners and 20 to 27 chief examiners are appointed in subjects like Bengali, English and Mathematics. In other subjects examiners and chief examiners are appointed according to the number of candidates. For this, teachers have to apply in the Electronic Teachers Information Form (ETIF). 40 rupees per account evaluation fee.

It has been found that there were at least three teachers of different subjects in the list of chief examiner of Bengali second paper. Among them, one is a teacher of fine arts, one of religion and one of accountancy. The board has identified four more people who will be chief examiners with different information on Bangla Prothom Patra and Bangladesh and world identity. There are similar complaints about English. However, the board did not reveal the names of all those involved.
Three current and former officials of the Chittagong Education Board told Prothom Alo that every year there is political lobbying in the appointment of Central Secretary, Examiner and Chief Examiner. Last year also some teachers were appointed in this way. This year they have been eliminated by showing ‘C category’. The same action has been taken against those withholding information.

Education officials say chief examiners have the power to re-evaluate accounts, reconcile marks and monitor assessment of examiners. As a result, if teachers from different subjects are appointed for such important duties, the quality, accuracy and acceptability of the assessment will be questioned. Subjective skill deficiency can also affect the results of the candidates.
When asked to know, Chittagong Education Board Examination Controller Professor Parvez Sajjad Chowdhury told Prothom Alo that there is no opportunity for teachers of other subjects to become chief examiners. After applying on the specific website, the information is verified by the head teacher of the concerned institution. The action was taken after at least seven teachers were found to have a discrepancy in their information. They will be excluded in future also.
According to a notification of the examination branch, only the teachers teaching the relevant subject at the SSC level can be included in ETIF as examiners of that subject only. Temporary, part-time, physical education teachers, librarians and office assistants will not get this opportunity. If the teachers who are not teaching in the classroom are included, the head of the institution will have to take responsibility.
Prothom Alo searched the institutions of Chief Examiners of Bengali, English, Mathematics and Bangladesh and World Knowledge subjects of Chittagong Board. It has teachers of different subjects from five schools as chief examiners of other subjects. Among them, one is a teacher of fine arts, one of religion, one of accountancy and two of physical education. Two other teachers have not been identified. Those two teachers were made Chief Examiners. Later their names were dropped. Apart from this, it is alleged that a teacher has evaluated the books of Bengali second paper with the students. The board also removed the teacher after getting the photo of the report card evaluation. The board said that a show cause notice will be given to the concerned teachers and heads of institutions after the SSC examination.
Deputy Controller of Examinations (Secondary) of Chittagong Board, Mohammad Abdul Mannan said, due to the shortage of teachers in many schools, teachers of one subject have to teach other subjects as well. For that reason, the headmasters sent their names. But there is no opportunity to recommend physical education teacher for Bengali subject. All information that was found was discarded.
The officials of the education board said that in 2023, 2024 and 2025 also there have been cases of account evaluation of other subjects with wrong information. There have even been complaints about assessment of accounts by students. According to the officials, some hide the information, while others use political influence to become examiners and chief examiners. Many have dropped out last year. All those detected this year have been excluded.
This year’s SSC theory exam will end on Wednesday. So far the Chittagong Board has released the list of Chief Examiners for seven subjects. The rest are in process. It is said that there was political lobbying to make an accountancy teacher in the list of Bengali II paper as the chief examiner. He was later dropped.
When asked, Secretary of Chittagong Education Board Mohammad Zahirul Haque said that it is mandatory to follow the rules in appointing examiners and chief examiners. Those whose information is found to be incorrect have been removed from the list. Necessary action will be taken after verifying the matter further. There is no scope for political lobbying. The board is taking a strict stand in these cases.
