Bollywood actor Bobby Deol has offered a rare, candid glimpse into the behind-the-scenes dynamics of his early career, addressing long-standing rumors and misconceptions regarding his interactions with several prominent co-stars. During a recent interview, the actor moved to clarify the playful and sometimes awkward anecdotes that have colored the industry’s perception of his past working relationships.
Addressing his early reputation for being difficult on set, Deol dismissed claims of unprofessionalism, attributing past tensions to the typical growing pains of young actors. Regarding his debut alongside Twinkle Khanna, he admitted that their frequent on-set disputes were fueled by youth and inexperience. Deol revealed that his tendency to openly discuss his persistent gastrointestinal issues often exasperated Khanna, leading to a public spat after she mentioned his personal habits in an interview. He characterized the incident as nothing more than youthful immaturity.

The actor also addressed his relationship with Rani Mukerji, which began during the filming of the movie “Bichhoo.” Contrary to rumors of a contentious rivalry, Deol explained that their reported friction—which included lighthearted teasing about her height—actually served as the foundation for a lasting friendship. He recounted a specific day on a boat when a disagreement over wind direction and hair placement led to a minor argument, which ultimately broke the ice. The encounter forged such a close bond that Mukerji began bringing homemade meals to the set for him daily.
Deol also shed light on a widely circulated anecdote from the 1997 thriller “Gupt: The Hidden Truth,” which alleged that he refused to perform an intimate scene with Manisha Koirala due to her breath. Deol confirmed the incident occurred during a particularly cold day of filming when Koirala had been eating fried chickpeas. The lingering scent of onions made the romantic sequence difficult to execute, prompting a humorous reaction from the actor.

In a display of his playful side, Deol revealed that he later took revenge in a lighthearted fashion during another scene. He encouraged a newcomer actor who was tasked with hitting him to consume a large quantity of onions before filming a sequence alongside Koirala. According to Deol, the move was intended as a joke, though he noted with amusement that Koirala remained entirely unfazed by the stunt.
