Amir Khasru Calls for Renewed Effort to Realize Ziaur Rahman’s Vision for Bangladesh

Former Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has reaffirmed the commitment of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to the vision of late President Ziaur Rahman, describing him as the architect of a modern Bangladesh. Speaking as the chief guest at a commemorative event marking Ziaur Rahman’s 45th death anniversary in Rangunia, Chittagong, on Saturday, Chowdhury stated that the current leadership under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman offers a renewed opportunity to realize that vision.

Chowdhury urged party members to act with responsibility and maintain strict adherence to the organization’s core principles and ideology. He emphasized that the collective effort of the entire nation is required to fulfill the government’s development agenda, noting that official initiatives alone are insufficient to sustain progress. The event was attended by prominent figures, including lawmakers Ershad Ullah, Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, and Humam Quader Chowdhury, alongside various party leaders.

Concurrent commemorations were held across Chittagong, where City Corporation Mayor Shahadat Hossain paid tribute at the Biplob Udyan. Addressing the gathering, the mayor cautioned against domestic conspiracies aimed at hindering the country’s development. He called upon the public to remain vigilant, urging them to embrace the ideals of the liberation war and the spirit of Ziaur Rahman to overcome obstacles to national progress.

Mayor Hossain highlighted the historical significance of Biplob Udyan, noting its connection to the 1971 independence struggle. He recalled how Ziaur Rahman initiated resistance from the site on the night of March 25 and subsequently galvanized the nation by broadcasting the declaration of independence from the Kalurghat radio station on March 26. He underscored that the late president’s leadership, patriotism, and bravery remain cornerstones of Bangladesh’s national identity.
