Ram Charan Apologizes For Bumrah Footballer Remark

Southern Indian megastar Ram Charan recently found himself at the center of a social media storm after mistakenly referring to star Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah as a “footballer” during a film event in Bhopal. The gaffe, captured on video, quickly went viral, prompting a flurry of memes and an eventual apology from the actor that added another layer of amusement to the incident.
The actor was in Bhopal for the grand song launch of his upcoming film “Peddi,” which also stars Janhvi Kapoor and features music by A.R. Rahman. During an interaction with the media at the event, Charan was asked to describe several prominent Indian cricketers in a single word or phrase.
He characterized Sachin Tendulkar’s career as a “long, legendary journey,” described M.S. Dhoni as “calm and cool,” and called Virat Kohli “fire.” For Rohit Sharma, Charan stated, “He is everyone’s favourite person.” However, when Jasprit Bumrah’s name came up, the actor confused sports, erroneously identifying the fast bowler as a “footballer.”
The video clip of Charan’s slip-up instantly spread across social media platforms, drawing widespread attention from netizens who flooded feeds with comments and rapidly generated a multitude of memes.
Ram Charan subsequently issued an apology, writing, “Uff… sometimes I really do forget names. My sincere apologies to Jasprit Bumrah for this mistake—it was a completely human error amidst all the excitement and crowd around.” The nature of the apology, acknowledging the mix-up, further contributed to the lighthearted online discourse.
Coincidentally, Bumrah’s recent performance on the cricket field has also been a topic of discussion, though unrelated to Charan’s comment. The star pacer has been grappling with an injury sustained during the T20 World Cup earlier this year, which has continued to plague him during the ongoing IPL season with the Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene noted that despite being given ample rest, Bumrah has not been able to regain his characteristic bowling sharpness due to the lingering injury.
