Attack on mobile court operation in Sylhet, four people jailed

The attack took place during the operation of the mobile court which was conducted to prevent illegal sand extraction in Companyganj of Sylhet. Four employees of the upazila administration were injured by the brickbats of the attackers.

The incident took place under the Dhalai bridge of the upazila at around eight o’clock on Sunday night. Later the situation was brought under control with the help of local people and police. Four persons have been sentenced to one year’s rigorous imprisonment in connection with the Balu robbery and assault by a mobile court.

The convicted persons are Md. of Kalabari area of ​​Companyganj. Tera Mia (55), South Kalabari Md. Masuk (45), North Kalabari Md. Gias (30) and Parua of Majhpara area. Mischabah Uddin (20).

According to the sources of the raid, a team of the administration led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Robin Mia and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Palash Talukdar conducted a raid there after receiving information about illegal sand mining under Dhalai Bridge. At this time, a tractor used for lifting sand was seized. After seizing the tractor, about 200 to 300 people involved in sand extraction gathered and attacked the mobile court by pelting bricks. Four employees were injured in the incident. However, UNO and Assistant Commissioner (Lands) remained unharmed. When the police of Companiganj police station reached the spot after receiving the information, the attackers fled. At that time, four people were arrested and sentenced immediately through the mobile court.

UNO Mohammad Robin Miah said the convicted persons have been handed over to the police.
