The price of fuel oil in the country has not been increased or reduced
After the increase in fuel oil prices this month itself, the supply in the market has normalized in the last few days. In this situation, the government has decided not to raise the price of fuel oil again, although there is still instability in the price of fuel in the world market around the Middle East crisis.
In an office order sent by the Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources on Thursday, it has been informed that the price of all types of fuel oil will remain unchanged. It said that the price of diesel per liter at the consumer level has been increased to Tk 115 per liter in April. The price of kerosene has been increased to Tk 130 per litre, petrol price to Tk 135 per liter and octane price to Tk 140 per litre. Fuel oil will be sold at this price in May.
After the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28, the oil supply was disrupted. It also has a great impact on the market of Bangladesh. People have to wait for hours to get fuel from petrol pumps. After more than a month and a half of this situation, the government increased the price of fuel on April 18. After that, the supply of fuel to the filling stations was increased, the suffering of the people was also reduced.
However, many people are unhappy with the increase in the price of fuel oil by Tk 15 to Tk 20 per litre. The concerned persons say that the highest price increase in the history of the country happened in August 2022. After the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, the price of diesel was increased by 42.5 percent to Tk 114. However, in the face of criticism, the price was reduced by Rs 5 in the same month. And this time after the price increase in April, fuel oil has reached the highest price in the country’s history.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) determines the price of jet fuel used in aircraft and furnace oil used in power plants. And in the executive order, the price of diesel, kerosene, petrol and octane is fixed by the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources.
From March 2024, the government started automatic pricing of fuel oil in line with the global market. Accordingly, new prices are adjusted every month taking into account the cost of fuel oil imported in the previous month. The new government kept the prices unchanged at the beginning of April as in March. However, the new prices are effective from April 19. In this, the price of diesel increased from 100 to 115 taka. The price of octane increased from 120 to 140 taka. Petrol price increased from 116 to 135 taka. And the price of kerosene increased from 112 to 130 taka.
