Flood forecast in 5 districts of the country, water of 4 rivers is above danger level
Heavy to heavy rain has started in different parts of the country since yesterday. Flood Forecasting and Warning Center has said that there may be floods in five districts of the country due to this rain. According to the information of the Water Development Board, among the five districts, floods have already started in Moulvibazar and Netrakona. There may be floods in the remaining three districts, as the water levels of the rivers in these districts are rising. The rain forecast says that the current rain may last for at least five more days.
Sub-Divisional Engineer of Flood Forecasting and Warning Center Partha Pratim Barua told Prothom Alo on Wednesday morning that flood situation may occur in lower areas of Moulvibazar, Netrakona, Sylhet, Habiganj and Sunamganj districts. Already floods have started in lower areas of Moulvibazar and Netrakona districts. This situation is due to heavy to very heavy rains in different parts of the country.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Meteorological Department predicted heavy to very heavy rain in eight parts of the country in the next 96 hours.
Heavy rain has started in different parts of the country since last night. It has been raining in the capital since this morning. Sources of the Meteorological Department said that the country’s highest rainfall in the last 24 hours was at Nikli in Kishoreganj, 161 mm. Apart from this, Bhola received 151 mm rain, Feni 148 mm.
Meteorologist Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik told Prothom Alo today that this rain will not be continuous in any area. Can be intermittent in different areas. Rain may continue till May 4.
Sources of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center said that the water of four rivers of the country is flowing above the danger line. These rivers are Bhugai Kansa, Manu, Someswari and Magra. Apart from Manu, all the other three rivers flow through Netrakona district.
Apart from this, the water of Surma, Kushiara rivers have also increased by more than one to one and a half meters, said Partha Pratim Barua, Sub-Divisional Engineer of Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre. He said, these rivers are small in size. So when it rains heavily, the water rises like this.
The engineer said that the flood situation could improve if the rain subsides.
