Locals set fire to the house of a relative arrested for murdering a couple with two children in Naogaon

In Naogaon’s Niamatpur upazila, local residents set fire to the house of one of their relatives, accusing them of being involved in the murder of four members of the same family. This incident took place in Bahadurpur village of the upazila around 10 am today. But no one was injured.

According to the police, Abdus Samad and his son Sabuj Rana have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder. Abdus Samad is sister-in-law of deceased Habibur Rahman.

According to police and local sources, it is believed that the murder may have happened due to a land dispute. Interrogation of the detained persons is going on.

Meanwhile, when news of the arrest spread, angry residents set fire to Abdus Samad’s house in Bahadurpur village this morning. No one was home at that time. Several parts of the tinshed single-storey house including furniture were burnt in the fire.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Niamatpur police station Habibur Rahman said that the police were sent to the spot after receiving the information. The situation is currently under control. The fire service is working to bring the fire under control.

A murder case has been filed in this incident. Moazzem Hossain, the father of the deceased housewife Popi Sultana, filed the case at Niamatpur police station on Tuesday night as the plaintiff.

OC Mahbubur Rahman said that unknown persons have been accused in the case. Some people have already been arrested in this incident. The Superintendent of Police will give details this afternoon.

Miscreants killed Habibur Rahman (35), his wife Poppi Sultana and their two children Parvez Rahman (9) and Sadia Akhtar (3) in Bahadurpur village of upazila last Monday night. Police recovered their bodies yesterday morning.
