Youth shot and stabbed to death following dispute in Khulna

A 22-year-old construction worker was shot and stabbed to death in the Ashibigha area of Khulna city on Wednesday evening. The victim, identified as Manjurul Islam, was attacked around 6:30 p.m. under the jurisdiction of Labanchara Police Station.
Local residents reported that the violence followed a dispute during a football match played on a vacant field in the neighborhood. After the game concluded, Manjurul was sitting near a culvert with a friend when a group of individuals approached them. Following a renewed verbal altercation, the assailants shot and stabbed Manjurul. He was rushed to a local hospital, where attending physicians declared him dead upon arrival.
Khulna Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner for the Khulna Zone, Md. Shafiqul Islam, stated that preliminary investigations suggest the killing was linked to the earlier football dispute. However, authorities are widening the scope of the inquiry to determine if other factors contributed to the violence.
Police are currently investigating potential ties to local criminal factions, noting reports of ongoing friction between two local groups identified as the Saifi Group and the Raju Group. Authorities are working to confirm whether either organization played a role in the fatal assault.
Investigators have located the friend who was with the victim at the time of the attack and are currently interrogating him to establish the sequence of events. Police stated that they are committed to identifying the perpetrators and determining the precise motive behind the killing as the investigation continues.
