Ten Horses Slaughtered at Abandoned Property in Tangail Prompt Police Investigation

Authorities in Tangail have launched an investigation after the carcasses of 10 horses were discovered at an abandoned house in the Basail municipality. The incident, which occurred in the Bornikishori area, has triggered widespread alarm among local residents.

According to local accounts, unidentified perpetrators slaughtered the animals during the night. While the suspects managed to remove the meat from seven of the horses, the carcasses of the remaining three were left at the scene. Police and municipal officials later recovered the three intact carcasses along with seven horse heads, bones, hides, and offal.

Basail Municipal Executive Officer Abdur Razzaq confirmed that the remains were removed from the site and buried elsewhere, following a thorough cleaning of the abandoned property. Officials noted that horse breeding is not a common practice in the Basail region, leading investigators to conclude that the animals were likely brought from elsewhere to the secluded location specifically for the slaughter.

Local witnesses reported that this is not an isolated occurrence, noting that remains of slaughtered horses had previously been found in the Naikhanibari and Gazir Bhanga areas of the upazila. Residents expressed concern that the meat may have been intended for sale to commercial food establishments.

Officer-in-Charge of Basail Police Station, Alamgir Kabir, stated that the slaughter likely took place between 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. He suggested that the perpetrators may have abandoned the final three carcasses due to the approaching daylight. Police are continuing to investigate the motive behind the incident and are working to identify those responsible.
