Dhaka University Professor Files Police Complaint Over Online Harassment and Security Threats

Shehrin Amin Bhuiyan, an assistant professor in the Department of Public Administration at the University of Dhaka, has filed a general diary (GD) with Shahbag Police Station following the unauthorized disclosure of her sensitive personal information on social media and a subsequent series of threatening phone calls.
The police confirmed on Sunday that the complaint was registered at Shahbag Police Station. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Moniruzzaman verified the filing, noting that the incident has been formally recorded and an investigation is underway.
According to the complaint, Bhuiyan’s private mobile number, email address, and home address were published on Facebook without her consent. Following the unauthorized disclosure, she began receiving harassing and threatening calls from unknown numbers. The professor stated that the exposure of her residential address has left her feeling insecure in her own home. She filed the report seeking legal protection and intervention regarding her personal safety.
OC Moniruzzaman stated that authorities are currently working to identify the individuals responsible for the dissemination of the information and the subsequent harassment. He further confirmed that the case will be transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of the police for a more comprehensive investigation.
Efforts to reach Shehrin Amin Bhuiyan for comment regarding the specific social media accounts involved in the disclosure were unsuccessful.
