Son arrested at Dhaka airport for allegedly murdering father in Banshkhali

Police arrested a 26-year-old man at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon as he attempted to flee the country following the murder of his father. The suspect, identified as Borhan Uddin, a resident of Kokdondi village in the Kalipur union of Banshkhali, Chittagong, was intercepted by authorities before he could board a flight to Oman.
Borhan Uddin had been on the run since Monday night, when he allegedly struck his 55-year-old father, Mohammad Shahjahan, with a log during a domestic dispute. Shahjahan, who had been admitted to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital following the assault, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police and local sources, the confrontation began on Monday at approximately 10:00 p.m. when an argument broke out between Shahjahan, his wife Asma Begum, and his daughter, Ruby Akter. During the altercation, Borhan, a former expatriate, reportedly intervened and struck his father in the neck with a piece of timber.
Following the victim’s death, Shahjahan’s sister, Lucky Akter, filed a formal case against Borhan Uddin and his sister, Ruby Akter. Authorities immediately launched a manhunt for the suspects.
Sudhangshu Shekhar Halder, police inspector (investigation) of Banshkhali Police Station, confirmed the arrest at the airport and stated that efforts are currently underway to locate and apprehend the remaining suspect, Ruby Akter.
