Six-year-old girl hospitalized following alleged rape in Taraganj

TARAGANJ, Bangladesh — A six-year-old child was hospitalized following an alleged rape in Taraganj, Rangpur, on Thursday afternoon. Authorities have identified the suspect as 21-year-old Shamnur Hossain, who remains at large.

The incident occurred when the suspect reportedly lured the child to a local marshland under the pretext of picking water lilies. According to police and local sources, the victim was playing near her home at approximately 5:30 p.m. when the suspect approached her.

After the encounter, the child returned home and informed her mother of the assault. The victim’s health deteriorated shortly thereafter, prompting family members to transport her to a local medical facility in Taraganj before transferring her to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

The victim’s mother subsequently filed a formal complaint at the Taraganj Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Ruhul Amin confirmed that a case has been registered against Shamnur Hossain. Police are currently conducting a search to apprehend the suspect, who fled the area immediately following the incident.
