Remains of Nine Bangladeshi Victims of Saudi Arabia Factory Fire to Arrive Thursday

The remains of nine Bangladeshi nationals who perished in a factory fire in Saudi Arabia are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Thursday. The victims were among 16 Bangladeshi workers who died in a sofa factory blaze in Riyadh on August 9.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, designated BG-340, is expected to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the afternoon. Authorities confirmed that the identities of the nine victims were established through fingerprint analysis.
Seven of the nine identified victims hail from Atrai Upazila in Naogaon. They are identified as Farid from Udanpoi village, Rubel Pramanik, Kalimuddin Islam, Mohan Ali, and his brother Suman Ali from Gangohali village, Sohel Rana from Dubai village, and Abdul Jalil Sarkar from Parkasunda village. The other two identified victims are Rabiul Islam from Mahishdanga village in Naldanga Upazila, Natore, and Shyamal Uddin from Morugram village in Bagmara Upazila, Rajshahi.
Atrai Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Moniruzzaman confirmed the development, citing a letter received on August 25 from the Labor Counselor at the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh, Muhammad Rezaye Rabbi. Families of the deceased have been notified to receive the remains at the airport. Following arrival procedures, the bodies are expected to reach their respective villages by Friday night.
While preparations for the funerals are underway for the nine identified victims, the status of the remaining seven workers remains uncertain. Embassy officials indicated that the identification process for these victims is ongoing, with DNA profiling currently underway to confirm their identities.
The delay in identifying the remaining victims has caused profound distress among their families, who are appealing to the government to expedite the repatriation process. Parul Bibi, mother of Minhaj, a victim from Madhyabowali village whose remains have yet to be identified, expressed the anguish shared by the grieving families, urging authorities to bring her son home so she can see him one last time.
