One dead and four injured in separate road accidents in Demra

One person was killed and four others were injured in two separate road accidents in the Demra area of the capital on Sunday night.

The first incident occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. near the Sufia Kamal Bridge, where a covered van struck a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, 35-year-old Saiful Islam, sustained critical injuries. He was transported to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) by 2:15 a.m., where attending physicians declared him dead.

Demra Police Station Sub-Inspector Mohammad Saddam confirmed that the victim, a native of Narsingdi, worked as a ride-sharing driver for Pathao. Authorities have seized the covered van involved in the collision and taken the driver into custody. The body has been transferred to the hospital morgue.

In a separate incident around midnight, a collision occurred between a sand-laden truck and a covered van near a police checkpoint in the Mastumajhi area of Demra. Four individuals—identified as 35-year-old Russel Mia, 25-year-old Rezaul Karim, 32-year-old Mohammad Shahjahan, and 42-year-old Farhad—were injured in the crash.

The victims were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment at approximately 3:00 a.m. Inspector Mohammad Faruk of the DMCH police outpost stated that the injured remain under medical care in the hospital’s emergency unit.
