Man dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound in Chittagong

A 45-year-old man died Saturday morning after sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his residence in the Hajipara area of the Doublemooring neighborhood in Chittagong.
The deceased, identified as Shahid Hossain, was the son of the late Iqbal Hossain and Momtaz Begum. Following the incident at the home of Imam Hossain, the victim was rushed to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) at approximately 7:50 a.m.
Medical staff admitted Hossain to Ward 28 of the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. According to sources at CMCH, individuals who transported the victim to the facility reported that he had shot himself in the drawing room of the house using a pistol.
Sub-Inspector Md. Gafur Mia of the Doublemooring Police Station confirmed the incident, stating that the victim died after shooting himself in the head. Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the act and to trace the origin of the weapon.
Records indicate that Hossain was a former bank employee who had resigned from his position two years ago. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the death.
