Man beaten to death by mob over child abduction suspicion in Khulna

A 26-year-old man was beaten to death by a mob in Khulna on Tuesday after local residents suspected him of being a child kidnapper. The victim, identified as Raju Shikdar, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital.

The incident occurred in the Rayermahal area under the Aarongghata Police Station. According to police and local sources, the confrontation began around 5:30 p.m. near a local mosque, where witnesses observed Shikdar walking with a child. Growing suspicious of his intentions, a group of locals intercepted him and began an interrogation that escalated into a physical assault. As more people gathered, the situation intensified, resulting in a severe beating.

Police were alerted to the scene following a call to the national emergency service, 999. Officers rescued Shikdar and transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Humayun Kabir, Assistant Commissioner of the Khulna Metropolitan Police for the Sonadanga Zone, stated that authorities have not yet confirmed the nature of the relationship between the victim and the child he was accompanying.

Most of the individuals involved in the assault dispersed before authorities could secure the area. The police have launched an investigation into the incident and have vowed to take legal action against those responsible for the fatal attack. Shikdar was a resident of Baliadanga village in the Phultala Upazila of Khulna district.
