Bangladesh and Malaysia Seek to Strengthen Tourism Cooperation and Labor Migration Opportunities

Bangladesh and Malaysia have moved to deepen bilateral cooperation in the tourism and hospitality sectors, focusing on increasing flight frequencies, streamlining visa processes, and expanding job opportunities for skilled Bangladeshi workers.
The discussions took place on Tuesday in Putrajaya, Malaysia, between Bangladesh’s State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Md. Rashiduzzaman Millat, and Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan. The meeting was also attended by the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia, Md. Shameem Ahsan.
According to a press release issued by the Bangladeshi Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, both nations emphasized the need to enhance cultural exchanges and create diverse, attractive experiences for tourists from both countries. The delegations explored various avenues to bolster bilateral ties, including the expansion of flight operations, the simplification of visa procedures, and the implementation of pre-verification systems to facilitate smoother travel.
A significant portion of the dialogue centered on human resource development within the hospitality sector. Recognizing the high demand for trained personnel in Malaysia’s tourism industry, officials discussed strategies to increase the recruitment of qualified Bangladeshi workers to address these labor needs. The two parties also agreed to share expertise, knowledge, and successful management models to strengthen their respective tourism infrastructures.
The meeting aimed to foster deeper mutual understanding through enhanced people-to-people contact and sustained cultural cooperation. Both sides expressed optimism that these collaborative initiatives would significantly advance the tourism and cultural relationship between the two nations.
Other notable attendees included Malaysia’s Deputy Secretary-General for Tourism, Chuah Chun Hua, and the Director of International Promotion for Asia and Africa at Tourism Malaysia, Noriah Jaafar. The Bangladeshi delegation also included Deputy High Commissioner Mosammat Shahanara Monica and First Secretary (Commercial) Pranab Kumar Ghosh.
