Man arrested in Narail on charges of sexually assaulting cousin

Police in Kalia Upazila of Narail district arrested a man on Friday following allegations that he repeatedly raped his 20-year-old cousin, who is speech-impaired. The suspect was taken into custody on Friday afternoon.
Idris Ali, officer-in-charge of Kalia Police Station, confirmed the arrest on Friday night.
According to the case filing, the victim had been living at her elder sister’s residence in a village within the Upazila. While the victim’s brother-in-law worked in Dhaka and her sister was away performing tailoring work in a neighboring village, the suspect reportedly coerced the victim into multiple acts of sexual assault.
The victim disclosed the abuse to her sister through gestures after a final incident occurred on August 21. When confronted by the victim’s sister, the suspect reportedly confessed to the assault.
The victim’s sister filed a formal complaint at the Kalia Police Station on Friday afternoon, naming the cousin as the sole perpetrator. Authorities stated that the suspect is currently in police custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
