Dispute Over Wedding Meal Portions Sparks Brawl in Lakshmipur Leaving Three Injured

A wedding celebration in the Raipur upazila of Lakshmipur descended into violence on Friday afternoon following a dispute over the quantity of meat served to guests. The altercation between the bride’s and groom’s families in Keroa Union resulted in injuries to three individuals.

The injured parties have been identified as Belal Hossain, 40, and Md. Shahinur, 40, both from the bride’s side, and Md. Yasin, 22, representing the groom’s side. Local residents intervened to transport the victims to the Raipur Upazila Health Complex. Following initial treatment, Belal Hossain was transferred to the district sadar hospital for more advanced medical care.

According to local sources, the conflict originated when a member of the groom’s party began arguing with the bride’s family regarding the food service. The verbal exchange escalated rapidly into a physical confrontation.

Dr. Mamunur Rashid, the Residential Medical Officer (RMO) at the Raipur Upazila Health Complex, confirmed that three people were brought to the facility. While two individuals were discharged after receiving treatment, one patient required a transfer to the district hospital.

The bride’s father expressed embarrassment over the incident, stating that the dispute began with complaints regarding the food service. He noted that he attempted to mediate between the two sides as the situation grew volatile. He confirmed that the marriage ceremony had been completed successfully prior to the disturbance and that his daughter remains at his residence.

Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan stated that authorities are aware of the incident. However, as of now, no formal written complaints have been filed by either party. Local reports suggest that both families intend to resolve the matter through an informal settlement.
