CNG-run autorickshaw driver shot in leg following extortion demand in Noakhali

A 22-year-old auto-rickshaw driver is receiving medical treatment at the Noakhali 250-Bed General Hospital after he was abducted and shot in the leg by a group of extortionists in Begumganj upazila. The incident occurred on Wednesday night near North Bordi village in Alaiyapur union.
The victim, identified as Rabbi Hossain, also known as Rakib, reported that four local youths intercepted his vehicle at approximately 9 p.m. as he was returning home from Chandraganj Purba Bazar. According to his statement, the suspects forcibly took him to an isolated location and demanded an extortion payment of 100,000 taka.
Hossain stated that when he refused to pay the demanded sum, the assailants robbed him of 1,500 taka in cash and his mobile phone. Following the theft, the attackers shot him near his right knee. Hossain managed to escape by leaping into a nearby ditch, eventually seeking medical help.
Police officials confirmed they arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports of the shooting. Inspector (Investigation) Md. Habibur Rahman of Begumganj Police Station stated on Thursday morning that law enforcement conducted overnight raids in search of the suspects.
No arrests have been made thus far in connection with the attack. Authorities confirmed that an active investigation is underway and efforts to apprehend the perpetrators are continuing.
