British expatriate from Sylhet shot dead in East London

A 40-year-old British-Bangladeshi man, Mashum Ahmed, was shot and killed by unidentified assailants in East London early Monday morning. Local authorities were alerted to the incident at approximately 3:30 a.m. local time.

Ahmed, a native of Purba Karikona village in the Bishwanath municipality of Sylhet, had been residing in the United Kingdom with his wife and daughter. His family confirmed that he had lived in the country since his youth and frequently visited his home district in Bangladesh.

The victim’s father, Amir Ali, received notification of the death on Tuesday morning from his younger son, Maruf Ahmed, who also resides in the United Kingdom. According to Ali, police officers visited Maruf’s residence at approximately 4:00 a.m. local time on Monday. After verifying the household’s identity and address, authorities requested a photograph of the victim, subsequently confirming that Mashum Ahmed had succumbed to gunshot wounds.

The body currently remains in the custody of the London police. While an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting is underway, the victim’s family stated they have yet to receive information regarding a motive or potential suspects. News of the fatality was formally announced to the community in Bishwanath via the local mosque’s public address system on Tuesday afternoon.
