Bangladeshi national shot dead in Saudi Arabia, assailant commits suicide

A 37-year-old Bangladeshi national was shot and killed in Taif, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday in an incident that also claimed the life of his attacker. The victim, identified as Md Kamrul Zaman, was a resident of Kutubpur village in Begumganj upazila, Noakhali.
According to family members, Kamrul was speaking to his wife, Halima Begum, over a mobile phone call on Sunday morning when the attack occurred. His wife reported hearing her husband cry out for help before the call was abruptly disconnected.
Relatives in Saudi Arabia informed the family that the assailant targeted Kamrul while he was standing outside the retail store where he worked. Kamrul attempted to flee into the shop to escape, but the gunman followed him inside and fired three shots, killing him instantly. Local reports indicate that the attacker subsequently turned the weapon on himself and died by suicide.
Kamrul had been working in Saudi Arabia for two and a half years to support his family, which includes his wife and two sons. He had migrated abroad after taking out significant loans to cover his travel expenses, much of which remains unpaid. His cousin, Md Soleman, stated that the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, noting that Kamrul had been finishing his shift at the time of the incident.
Begumganj Upazila Executive Officer Md Kaysur Rahman stated on Monday that he had become aware of the tragedy through social media reports but has yet to receive official confirmation or detailed information regarding the circumstances. Family members, including local officials, are currently mourning the loss as they grapple with the sudden death of the family’s primary breadwinner.
