US Secretary of State Rubio Claims Cuba is Nearing Collapse Amid Economic and Political Crisis
United States Secretary of State Rubio has asserted that Cuba is currently on the brink of collapse, citing a crippled economy and a governance structure that fails to serve its citizens. Speaking in an interview with US media outlet Fox News on Monday, the top American diplomat characterized the Caribbean nation as a comprehensive failure, emphasizing that its current political and economic models have consistently failed to deliver meaningful benefits to the public.
Elaborating on his assessment, Rubio stated that Cuba possesses no functional economy while its leadership continues to champion a revolution that he claimed died two decades ago. He further highlighted a staggering demographic shift, claiming that approximately 20 percent of Cuba's total population has emigrated since 2021, a mass exodus that he attributes directly to the systemic failures of the state.
The US official maintained that Washington harbors expectations for Havana to pivot toward a different trajectory, stressing that piecemeal economic adjustments will not suffice to rectify the underlying crisis. According to Rubio, achieving sustainable reform necessitates the simultaneous pursuit of political freedom and economic restructuring, a dual transition that he argued must be advanced concurrently during an eventual transitional period.
